I had so much fun working with Liz and Justus for their wedding! What a great, down-to-earth couple! I had actually connected with them at Sarah and Johnny’s wedding and with fun friends like that, I couldn’t wait to share Liz and Justus’s special day with them. As I got to know Liz and Justus I found them to be such and adventurous couple with a passionate love for the outdoors. I learned they love to spend time together having a hike or rock climbing during their travels. It was no surprise to me then, that they chose to celebrate their marriage in a desert wedding under a beautiful picture perfect blue sky.
The Ruin Venue
Liz prepared for her day at an Airbnb located in Pioneertown not far from the venue. This place was enjoyable as there were horses, pigs, chickens, and roosters all running about and underfoot! Liz is an animal lover, so she was completely in her element! The house was so comfortable and relaxed, it reminded me of the way a warm grandmother’s house would feel. You just feel yourself when you are there. No pretensions about anything.
I cannot get over the juxtaposition and stark contrast of Liz’s elegant beaded BHLDN dress against the rustic backdrop of the venue. This pairing created the ultimate boho chic inspiration. While she was getting ready, she explained to me the necklace had her great great grandmother’s ring attached to it. Needless to say, it was super special and sentimental to her.
“Oh, sunlight! The most precious gold to be found on Earth.”

The ceremony took place at The Ruin Venue near The Joshua Tree National Park. This site has an abandoned house on the property which belonged and was inhabited by a gold miner over 100 years ago. The current owners have outfitted it with eclectic seating and market lights which made for an unforgettable and stunning night. It’s so amazing to see the way that old and new can be joined together to create a completely new and unforgettable experience.
The evening was warm, and the stars were out. We managed to get a gorgeous sunset and night sky shot. I loved this DIY wedding. They didn’t have any decor, no flowers, no seating arrangements, just a beautiful setting with beautiful laughs, happy tears, and memories that will last a lifetime. This day is one for the record books, for sure. It was hot as heck, and at one point it reached 104 degrees! But, that didn’t stop all the lovin’ and fun that surrounded this couple. It’s clear that their family and friends enjoyed every minute with them!
No words can describe the love and joy that was shared at Liz and Justus’ The Ruin Venue wedding. What an honor it was to be the one to capture that love!
